HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One and 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer Series (H711) - How to Scan: From the Control Panel

Introduction
This document explains how to scan a picture or a document using the control panel on your printer.
Before scanning, make sure that the computer is on, the printer software is installed, and the printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, a wired (Ethernet) network cable, or through a wireless network connection.
Click the plus sign ( ) next to your operating system for more information.
Windows
Important : Some of the following solutions require the full HP software. If you did not install the full software when you installed your printer, click here to go to the software and drivers page , and then download and install the full feature software .
Wired (Ethernet) or wireless network connection
Follow these steps to scan from the printer to a computer over a network connection.
Step one: Activate the scan connection to the computer
Follow these steps to activate the scan connection between the printer and the computer.
Important: To send scans from your printer to a computer over a wired (Ethernet) or a wireless network, you must enable the Manage Scan to Computer connection from the HP software after the computer restarts, hibernates, or enters sleep mode (the hard disc shuts down). The scan cannot complete if the Manage Scan to Computer connection is not enabled each time that the computer restarts, hibernates, or enters sleep mode .
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  2. Open the HP software.
    • Windows XP
      Click Start ( ), click All Programs , click the HP folder, click the folder with the name of your printer series, and then click your printer.
    • Windows Vista
      Click the Windows icon ( ), click Programs , click the HP folder, click the folder with the name of your printer series, and then click your printer.
    • Windows 7
      Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click the HP folder, click the folder with the name of your printer series, and then click your printer.
    • Windows 8
      1. Swipe from the right side of the touchscreen, or move the mouse cursor to the lower or upper-right corner of the screen to open the Charms bar.
      2. Click or tap Search ( ).
      3. Click or tap Apps ( ), if it is not already selected.
      4. Type the name of your printer in the search box, press Enter , and then double-click or double-tap your printer.
    NOTE: You can also click the printer icon ( ) on your desktop to open the printer software.
  3. Under Scanner Actions , click Manage Scan to Computer , and then click Close .
Step two: Place the item on the scanner glass or automatic document feeder (ADF) tray
Follow these steps to scan from the scanner glass or from the automatic document feeder (ADF) tray.
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  2. Load the picture or document:
    • Scanner glass : Place the item print side down on the scanner glass. Position the item according to the engraved guides next to the glass (usually near the right-front corner or the left-front corner). Close the scanner lid.
    • ADF : Place the item into the document feeder tray. Make sure that the printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the paper width guides to fit the item.
      CAUTION: Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos.
Step three: Scan to your computer
Follow these steps to scan from the control panel.
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  2. Touch the Right Arrow ( ) to display the second navigation screen.
  3. Touch Scan ( ).
  4. Touch Computer to scan to the connected computer.
  5. Touch the name of the computer that you want to save the scan to.
  6. Touch the Down Arrow ( ) to scroll through the scan options, and then touch the option that corresponds to the document or picture you are scanning.
    Refer to the following table to determine which option to use for your scan.
    Scan option Description
    Scan as PDF Use this setting to scan text documents that are not editable. Use the Save as Editable Text (OCR) to scan text that you can edit.
    Scan as JPEG Use this setting to scan pictures and images.
    Email as PDF Use this setting if you want to scan and email a non-editable text document in Microsoft Outlook or similar email software.

    Email as JPEG Use this setting to scan and email pictures or images in Microsoft Outlook or similar email software.

    Scan as Editable Text (OCR) Use this setting to scan text documents that are editable. You must have Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software (for example, OmniPage, FineReader, TextBridge, or SimpleOCR) installed on your computer to save text as editable.
    Everyday Scan Use this setting to create a customized scan that you can use multiple times.
  7. Touch Start Scan . The printer scans the document or image, and then saves it to the destination specified in the settings.
USB connection
Follow these steps to scan to a computer with a USB cable connection.

Step one: Enable Scan to Computer
Follow these steps to activate the scan connection between your printer and the computer.
Important: To send scans from your printer to a computer over a USB, wired (Ethernet), or wireless network, you must enable the Scan to Computer connection from the HP Utility software after the computer restarts, hibernates, or enters sleep mode (the hard disc shuts down). The scan cannot complete if the Scan to Computer connection is not enabled each time that the computer restarts, hibernates, or enters sleep mode .
  1. On the main menu, click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences .
  2. Click Print & Fax or Print & Scan .
  3. Under Printers , click your printer, if you see more than one printer.
  4. Click Open Print Queue . The print queue for your printer opens.
  5. Click Printer Setup or Settings . A new window opens.
  6. Click the Utility tab, and then click Open Printer Utility . The HP Utility window opens.
  7. Under Scan Settings , click Scan to Computer .
  8. At the top of the screen, click the check box next to Enable Scan to Computer , if it is not already checked. Scan to Computer is enabled.
I don't have a Scan Settings option
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  2. From the desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD ( ).
  3. Click Applications , and then click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
  4. Double-click HP Uninstaller . The HP Uninstaller opens.
  5. Under Scan Settings , click Scan to Computer , and then check the box for Enable Scan to Computer .
