HP Photosmart Premium (C309) All-in-One Printer Series - Scanning from the Control Panel Does Not Work After Removing Photosmart Essential

Issue
After you remove Photosmart Essential or the HP Customer Participation program, the Scan button on the product control panel does not respond. An error message might also display on the product control panel or on the computer, and the Estimated Ink Levels gauge does not display on the control panel.
Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
NOTE: Some of the following steps require restarting the computer. Consider bookmarking or printing this page for ease of reference.
Step one: Remove the HP software
  1. Use the HP uninstaller to remove all installed HP software:
    • Windows XP: Click Start , point to All Programs , Point to HP , click your product model, and then click Uninstall .
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), point to Programs , point to HP , click your product model, and then click Uninstall .
  2. Restart the computer.
Step two: Download the software from the HP Web site
  1. Right-click this link, Select Software and Drivers , and then click Open in New Window .
  2. If prompted, type your product model number. You might also need to click your product in a list of products.
  3. Click Next , and then click your operating system. The Select Software and Drivers page opens.
  4. Click Full-Feature Software and Driver , and then click Download only .
  5. Click Save , and then save the software to the Windows desktop.
Step three: Install the Digital Imaging Monitor from the downloaded software
  1. Double-click the icon for the downloaded software on the Windows desktop, and then follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation.
  2. On the Review Installation Options screen, click Selected Software . A list of program options displays.
  3. Click to clear the check box next to any programs you do not want to install, such as Photosmart Essential or the HP Customer Participation Program.
  4. Click OK to return to the Review Installation Options screen, and then continue with the installation normally.
    The print driver, including the Digital Imaging Monitor, installs on your computer, and Photosmart Essential does not install. When the installation finishes, you can use your product without loss of function.
